During the Second World War, the Ministry of Supply used the space for secure storage of bombs. In the 1970s, the site was converted into the Grange Cavern Military Museum. It housed a variety of tanks, artillery, and military vehicles within its 3,250 square metres of floor space. The museum closed its doors to the public around 1989. High humidity levels within the subterranean environment caused issues with vehicle preservation. The newly opened A55 bypass is largely blamed for a fall in visitor numbers, contributing to the forced closure. Since it closed, the exhibits have been removed and the caverns left largely empty.
